 Re: Help us like salmon....
There are lots of carbs in pasta and rice, if you want to stay away from fast carbs you have to eat wild rice and whole grain pasta. Eating normal pasta is just as bad as white bread.

Looks good Lollie!
I agree slemmo. I've only been buying brown/wild rice and low carb pastas. We're really trying to stay away from all the "white" foods, including breads.

 Re: Help us like salmon....
I was just watching Dr. Oz this afternoon and he was talking about what's best and he said instead of white rice, brown rice was better but the best choice would be barley. He also said that instead of white bread, whole wheat was a good choice but pumpernickel was even better.

 Re: Help us like salmon....
That really surprises me Mama. I have read so many sites regarding bread (which is really O/T here. lol) but whole wheat is really not much better than white bread. Whole grain is supposed to be the BEST. I'm surprised he actually said that though because the sugar carbs aren't much different between white and wheat. Although whole wheat pastry flour is okay. Go figure........it's just so damn confusing!!!

 Re: Help us like salmon....
It's not confusing at all, white bread and wheat is the same thing to me, and then all whole grain breads are better than "not whole grain" wheat bread. Without the whole grain the carbs are taken up by the body faster than they can be used and are stored instead. Whole grain foods release the carbs over a longer period of time, making the blood sugar levels more stable, and also helping the body make us of them instead of the carbs being stored as fat. So any type of wheat product that are not whole grain are no-go as far as healthy eating is concerned. All this we're taught in school here as children, and most people only eat white bread for special occasions or weekends. Some of the pumpernickels are made with 100% whole grain rye and are very good as an alternative. Here in Norway white bread isn't even called bread, it's called loff, probably from your word loaf, to us bread must have some amount of whole grain flour, if it doesn't it's not bread, it's loff
