Thanks Lollie! That's a good starting point. :)

Didn't the doctor supply him with a dietary guideline?
Normally, I'd think they would, but perhaps not in John's case.
Anyway, I wish him and you luck in controlling it from becoming full blown diabetes.

No, they didn't. This doctor is at a small clinic he goes to. The PA did make some suggestions. We did find out the other day when we were at the "Y" that they have a certified dietician there, so we're going to make an appt. to talk with them. He's also going to look into the local hospital and see what they have there.

Thanks Lollie. I think if he really watches the carbs and gets into the exercise program at the Y he'll be okay.

The weird part is he's suffered from hypoglycemia for years.

Watching the carbs and keeping active are the keys to preventing it from getting out of control.
I don't think it's going to be such a challenge once he gets into the swing of making simple changes.
There may be some things he'll have to force himself to eat to keep it all in check, and not become adult onset.
Steven as you know was diabetic since age 17, and was rarely stable.
So I know how frightening it can be to think it could potentially become something worse.

It is pretty frightening. My mom didn't get it til she was in her 50's and even with the insulin it was pretty unstable. Of course later on she didn't/couldn't manage it on her own.

We'll be making some changes for sure and hopefully things will work out fine. It will just take some time to adjust.

I know they did for my mom but they actually weren't any help. lol I did alot of research on line for her but she was on insulin and it was alot harder!

It's sad, I guess they figure you can figure out for yourself the things you need to do.

I was told not to eat anything white. Rice, bread (they called it expanded glue), pasta.....

Switched to whole grain products. I don't eat sweets so that helps.

Good luck!

Thanks Bones! That's pretty much what we've been told. Has anyone heard of Dreamfields pasta? That's a brand that the PA recommended. She said it's available pretty much every where so I'll be looking for that...

DHs' problem is he LOVES sweets!
