Post Re: Kolaches
We only have a couple bakeries in my immediate area. I could travel 30-45 minutes to a Polish/Slovenian neighborhood or the West Side Market in Cleveland and get them but it's not feasible for just that........

Most of the bakeries are now in the grocery stores.........not the greatest by any means.

Was just reading about a new Czech restaurant and sports bar opening up in Tama.
Here is a pic of the kolaches being provided by a Mrs Hlas. These are the way my
Dad and Mom made them. Next time in Iowa I will be eating here.

I know you have your mom's recipe but will send you my Dad's which you might want to try sometime.

My Mom taught two girls we knew how to make them and they entered them in the county fair (1961 or 62)
and won first prize, then took their talents to the Iowa State Fair and won First, as well. Dad got the recipe from
an old Bohemian lady back in the early 50's. I was always kind of spoiled with good Czech food.

I came across some filling recipes and will type them out, as well.
